About Ms. Y's Playground

For families, teachers and school staff.

Free practice games, made by a teacher, built around the mistakes students actually make.

Who I am

I'm Ms. Y, an elementary reading and math intervention teacher. I made these games for my students, and they are free for any family or teacher to use.

Why I built it

Ms. Y's Playground was created to target specific skills in math (Numbers and Operations), phonics and reading fluency. My students need extra practice on the exact skills we work on in small groups, and most apps don't match those skills or the errors students make with them.

Students can practice the same skill they are learning in intervention at school or at home. Grade levels are only suggestions, so students working on earlier skills can practice without being labeled by grade.

How the games target common errors

I looked at the common errors my students make and built each game so it responds to them right away with corrective feedback.

Designed for every learner

The games follow Universal Design for Learning: information comes in more than one way (pictures, words and sound), students can tap or type their answers, and short games with clear goals help students stay motivated.

Safe for students

No sign-ups, no ads, no pop-ups and no tracking. The words, clues and celebration pictures are checked to be appropriate for elementary students. See the privacy notice for details.

How to use it

These games are for practice after a skill has been explicitly taught. They are meant to support direct instruction, not replace it. Families and teachers can use the printable QR codes on the home page to send a student straight to one game.
